Towers, conductor sag and substation plant walked by drone while the circuit stays live — 890 structures on a 312 km run, with clearance measured from the air instead of estimated from the verge.
The sheet above is a drawing of this. 10 capture waypoints, and every finding called as the aircraft reaches it — scroll sets the target, the mission keeps its own pace, and the page waits for it.
One governed pass up a live 400 kV circuit: four structures read at conductor height, the one stand that has grown inside the envelope measured and flagged with the gang already cutting it, a bucket crew working an energized jumper — and then the unit walks ICT-1's bund and reads the gauges, without a minute of outage anywhere.
Midspan clearance gets shot from the verge with a laser and a guess at conductor temperature. The statutory minimum is 7.6 m and the answer comes back as a range.
Clearance you can measure
The wire's real sag is measured: 8.1 m over the crossing between T215 and T216, sag 9.9 m on a 380 m span, corrected to conductor temperature. A number, with the survey standing behind it.

A degrading compression joint or a slack substation connector gives nothing away from the ground. The first sign is a trip on a January evening.
Hot joints before they open
A heat pass over the busbar, the jumpers and the transformer bank ranks all 214 connectors by ΔT, so the outage you book is the one you would otherwise have taken unplanned.
Vegetation encroachment gets noted in a patrol report, typed up a week later, and rediscovered on the next patrol by a different crew.
A flag that actually closes
Each finding is raised on the frame that shows it, assigned to the section owner with a date, and tracked until the cutting gang has been. Twelve clearance flags this cycle, none of them living in a notebook.

Four audits a year and the circuit never comes off: the patrol flies the live line, the clearances are measured off the flight itself, and every finding lands assigned. The only outage in this program is the one you book on purpose.

Line patrol
Every quarter, with the circuit energized
A drone walks the line a lineman used to climb: a waypoint over every structure, fittings and insulator strings on the record at 1.6 cm detail, and no outage booked to get any of it.
The wire's real sag is measured, corrected to conductor temperature: 8.1 m over the crossing between T215 and T216 against a statutory 7.6 m — a number with the survey standing behind it, not a range shot from the verge.

Substation heat pass
Each audit, over the live busbar
The busbar, the jumpers and the transformer bank are ranked by ΔT, so the joint that would have opened on a January evening becomes the outage you book instead of the one you take.

No. All four annual audits fly with the circuit energized — 890 towers on a 312 km run, walked by drone while the line carries load. At 05:40 the circuit stayed on; by 09:30 the cutting gang was scheduled and the line never came off.
A number. The wire's real sag is measured, corrected to conductor temperature: 8.1 m over the plantation between T215 and T216, sag 9.9 m on the 380 m span, against a statutory minimum of 7.6 m. The margin is 0.5 m and it is written down.

Q03
How fast does a flown span become a clearance?
The span was flown at 07:12, two passes, and the clearance read 8.1 m at 07:58 — forty-six minutes from capture to a number the section owner can act on. The cutting gang was on the schedule by 09:30.
It is raised on the frame that shows it, assigned to the section owner with a date, and tracked until the cutting gang has been. Twelve clearance flags this cycle — each one addressed to a tower and a KP, none rediscovered by the next patrol.

Q05
Can you catch a joint before it opens?
A heat pass over the busbar, the jumpers and the transformer bank ranks all 214 connectors by ΔT, resolved to 0.1 °C. The worst ones become a booked outage instead of a trip on a January evening.
Every structure, four times a year, addressed the way the line is: T215 sits at KP 12.78, and the span schedule either side of it carries the measured ground clearance for each span. One record, 890 towers, no sampling.

Who reads it
Read overnight on a circuit like this one: the quarter's patrol, the span clearances, the connector ΔT ranking and the flag register at its current state. Three of the 27 profiles wake up to it.
Span T215–T216 is the one to watch: 8.1 m over the plantation against the statutory 7.6 m. The cutting gang is slotted for 09:30 — the flag stays open on the record until they have been.

Nobody climbs a live tower on this circuit: fittings, insulators and the earth wire read off the patrol at 1.6 cm, and the clearance over the plantation is measured from the air, not paced out under the span.
