Find the iron that isn't working.

118 units — excavators, lifts, pumps, generators — tracked by hours run against hours billed, located by GPS and found in the morning flight when they report to nothing at all. Idle time is down 9% since the yard started reading the same sheet as the crews.

What it does

Telematics gives you engine hours. The rental agreement gives you billed hours. The gap between them is the number that decides whether the fleet is a cost or a tool, and on most jobs it is nobody's job. Here it sits on the same sheet as idle labor, by unit, by job and by week, because a scissor lift standing in a laydown yard costs the job the way a crew standing at a gate does.

Units that report to nothing — towable generators, plate compactors, the pump nobody rented a modem for — are found in the capture instead. The morning ortho locates them in the yard at 1.8 cm/px and stamps a last-seen position and date on the record. So when a job asks for another 40-tonne excavator, the answer starts with the one sitting 22 km away at 3.1 hours a day.

How it works

  1. 01

    Track the hours

Telematics feeds engine hours, fuel burn and position for connected units; QR scans at the yard and the daily log cover the rest; the morning flight finds what reports to nothing. Owned iron and rented iron sit on one list, in one set of units.

  2. 02

    Compare against the invoice

Hours run are set against hours billed and against the crews those units were dispatched to support. Idle is defined once, portfolio-wide — under 2.0 hours a day for five working days — so the sheet means the same thing on every job and nobody argues the definition.

  3. 03

    Redeploy or off-hire

A flagged unit reaches the weekly fleet call with two options attached: the job that requested the same class this month, and the off-hire date that stops the meter. Both actions write back to the record, so next week's number moves for a reason you can name.
