What it does
A checkpoint is a gate tied to a schedule activity: the template it runs, the evidence it requires, the people who may sign it, and the work it holds. No pour without a rebar sign-off. No board without the in-wall frame. No closeout without the envelope test attached to the room it belongs to.
Because the gate lives on the schedule, an open hold point shows up in the three-week lookahead as what it is — a risk to Thursday's pour — instead of surfacing as a phone call at 07:30. Once released, the closed gate becomes part of the as-built record: what is behind that drywall, signed, dated, and cited to the revision in force.

Put the gate on the schedule
Map hold points to activities once per phase — pre-pour, in-wall, envelope, commissioning — and they repeat on every area the phase covers, on every job that runs the same sequence.

Hold the work behind it
The activity cannot be marked complete while its gate is open, and the open gate is visible to everyone reading the lookahead, so the crew that needs it chased knows by Monday rather than on the morning of the pour.

Release it on the record
The inspection closes, the signature lands, the frame and the drawing revision are stamped on it, and the gate releases. The release stays queryable for the life of the asset.
